A vegan cooking competition show is finally hitting Food Network and its host, Tabitha Brown, is everyone’s favorite vegan foodie. Called It’s CompliPlated, the show is built around the premise that cooking should be inclusive of everyone at the table. As such, each episode will feature four chefs who will be tasked with creating plant-based dishes for celebrity chef Maneet Chauhan and rotating guest judges who have various dietary restrictions.
It’s CompliPlated reflects what it’s actually like to make a meal the whole family will love—it’s not easy to make one dish for everyone and this series makes it fun,” Jane Latman, President, Home & Food Content and Streaming, Warner Bros. Discovery (Food Network’s parent company), said in a statement. “Tabitha Brown’s energy, sense of humor and real-life journey to becoming vegan make her the perfect host to take us on this adventure.”
Some concepts featured on the series will include a feast with Southern hospitality, gluten-free noodles, and an Instagram-worthy fruit-and-vegetable feast. “Becoming vegan changed my life and the way I cook—and I know folks can relate to the daily challenge of making the whole family happy with one meal, so we decided to make a game of it,” Brown said in a statement. “These chefs cook from the heart and their food is mind-blowing—viewers are sure to have a blast and be inspired for their next family dinner.”
Brown took to social media to share the news of Food Network’s first vegan cooking show with her millions of fans. “This show is about to change the way we all see food,” Brown posted on Instagram. “It’s for everyone and I can’t wait to take you all on the journey with me.” It’s CompliPlated is slated to air on the Food Network on August 11, 2022 at 10pm ET.

While Brown found social media fame from a video she posted in 2018 of herself enjoying a TTLA (tempeh bacon, tomato, lettuce, and avocado) sandwich in her car, the North Carolina–born influencer has been working in the entertainment industry as an actress and comedian for years. Brown has parlayed her newfound social media fame into multiple projects, including several television shows.
In 2020, Brown’s All Love web series debuted on the Ellen Digital Network. While it ran for two seasons, All Love gave viewers a taste of Brown’s advice on cooking, parenting, social media, and self-care. The vegan star is also part of the The Chi family and made her debut appearance in the fourth season of the Lena Waithe-produced Showtime series.
On top of all of these shows, Brown is becoming a major influencer for younger audiences, as well, through her popular Tab Time YouTube Original show. This show is currently in its second season which includes 10 episodes, released every week on the Tabitha Brown YouTube page and YouTube Kids App. Each 22-minute-long episode follows Brown as she interacts with various characters and engages in activities with kids, all to help young audiences learn about important life lessons such as self-care and healthy eating habits.
VegNews.TabithaBrown.TargetTarget
With her soothing voice, sage advice, and hilarious catchphrases, Brown is quickly winning the hearts and minds of the nation with a steady stream of projects that speak to her audiences on different levels while fulfilling her own passions.
This month, Brown shared her lifelong dream of designing a fashion line with the world through a Target collaboration that found instant success both in-store and online. The first collection dropped with 75 summer items such as towels, beach bags, coverups, swimsuits, t-shirts, and dresses, all made in vibrant patterns and prints. Target will release three additional Tabitha Brown collections this year.
Brown also worked with seasoning brand McCormick to develop her Sunshine Seasoning. The limited launch of this seasoning sold out immediately last year, inspiring McCormick to bring Sunshine Seasoning to stores in a wider rollout this month to fill demand. She is also incorporating the seasoning into specials at Kale My Name, a restaurant she brought to the Los Angeles area after visiting its flagship in Chicago, IL.

The mother of two is also a New York Times best-selling author with her first inspirational book Feeding the Soul (Because It’s My Business). In October, fans will be able to purchase Brown’s first cookbook Cooking from the Spirit, which captures Brown’s shoot-from-the-hip cooking style and plant-based recipes fans grew to love during the Facebook Live videos she made earlier in her career.
As Facebook Live fans know, Brown’s hair has a name, Donna, and Donna has a business called Donna’s Recipe, a haircare brand Brown crafted to help others achieve their hair goals.
This business is personal to Brown, who often straightened her naturally curly hair and suppressed her Southern accent to fit into a certain mold as a Hollywood actress. To advocate for equality for others who have experienced discrimination due to their natural hair, Brown is a spokesperson for The CROWN Act—legislation aimed at ending this type of discrimination on a national level—which she promoted in a Dove campaign that aired at the recent BET Awards.
Now, Brown is living a life that is true to herself and sharing it with others through her myriad projects, including the first vegan Food Network show where her veganism, hair, and distinct Southern accent will help a wider audience understand the importance of authenticity.

Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse eyes growth across Carolinas as SouthPark restaurant opens - WSOC Charlotte

WSOC Now

Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse (Charlotte Business Journal)
CHARLOTTE —

Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse is now dishing up its signature Philly cheesesteaks in SouthPark.
Veteran restaurateur Rob Duckworth opened that roughly 12,000-square-foot, 200-seat restaurant this week at 4625 Piedmont Row Drive — formerly home to TacoMac.
The family-friendly sports bar also is known for its wings, burgers, salads, pizza and flatbreads as well as a robust beer selection. It has 70 beers on tap.
“There isn’t a lot of what we do in SouthPark,” Duckworth says. “What we have is pretty traditional.”
It’s a project more than two years in the making. Duckworth faced numerous delays because of Covid, running into difficulty securing everything from fryers to refrigerators.
SouthPark marks the sixth location of Duckworth’s — and it likely won’t be the last. Duckworth says he’s looking at expansion in the Carolinas, considering options from Raleigh to Charleston

Best Reporting Software for Small Business 2022 - Small Business Computing

Whether you own a small firm or a large enterprise, data-driven competencies and advanced analytics & reporting capabilities are indispensable for your business to stay ahead of the competition. Reporting software with built-in data visualization tools blend into an organization’s applications and help you make informed decisions based on useful reports and predictive analytics.
Jump to:
Reporting software is a set of tools that help businesses gather data from multiple sources, consolidate information, and generate useful insights and analytics in the form of business intelligence (BI) reports and data visualizations, such as graphs and charts. These reports provide organizations real-time visibility of data, monitor their key performance indicators (KPIs), identify trends and patterns to formulate future growth strategies, and help in the decision-making process.
Different organizations use different types of reporting tools, which are usually integrated into a central BI suite to combine different reports to generate useful insights. The major types of reporting tools you may find are market automation and analytics software, sales dashboard, customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), information technology (IT) software and dashboards, financial accounting software, time tracking tools, and BI software.
The benefits of using a reporting software include:
With tons of reporting software available to cater to different businesses, we’ve covered a few in the following categories:

With several automation and analytics capabilities, a marketing reporting software consists of tools that enable organizations to manage, monitor, and evaluate their marketing performance; optimize strategic marketing activities; streamline workflows; improve return on investment (ROI), and maximize their conversions and sales. Let’s talk about the following marketing reporting software today:
HubSpot Marketing Hub is a powerful stand-alone hub of marketing tools that falls under the roof of HubSpot CRM, an integrated platform that combines all tools and integration of marketing, content management, sales, and customer service. The marketing software lets you run a comprehensive inbound marketing campaign with a wide range of features including lead generation, marketing automation, email marketing, traffic and conversion analytics, blogging, landing pages, social media, and custom reporting. The best thing about HubSpot Marketing Hub is its ability to integrate with basic CRM and sales tools at no extra cost.
With limited features in the free version, HubSpot might get expensive for small businesses as they scale. Also, there’s a lack of reporting features and split testing or A/B testing on lower tiers. Some users complained about limited customization capabilities, metrics tracking, email templates, and social media integration.
HubSpot Marketing Hub comes in four pricing tiers:
Adobe’s Marketo Engage is a cloud-based automated marketing platform that helps businesses provide personalized customer experience by bringing together customer data, content, analytics and automation, and engaging marketing and sales teams under one roof.
One of the most significant features of this platform is the ability to track customers’ preferences and then show the content based on those preferences, thus boosting sales through deeper customer engagement. Another stand-out feature is its smart cloning campaign that can save a lot of time.
Unlike HubSpot which caters to all small-to-growing enterprises, Marketo Engage primarily targets the high-growth enterprise. Though a powerful email marketing and lead management tool, it has certain limitations, such as complicated UI, challenges for beginners, issues with filtering, limited templates for emails and landing pages, occasional glitches, and error codes. In addition, many users complained about the product being expensive for small businesses.
Based on database size, Marketo Engage pricing is provided by the software vendor, and it comes in four tiers with different features.

From basic single-entry bookkeeping solutions to complex double-entry functionalities, financial reporting softwares have become vital tools for organizations to manage day-to-day financial operations, such as invoicing, billing, payroll, and handling tax management and complex financial reports. Below is an overview of two financial reporting softwares and their features, pros, cons, and pricing.
Intuit’s QuickBooks is one of the leading accounting tools that cater to the financial needs of freelancers and small- to medium-sized businesses. It comes in two forms: a desktop version and a cloud-based SaaS version called QuickBooks Online or QBO.
QuickBooks integrates all financial data to provide customizable visual reports, including accounts receivables and payable reports, profit and loss statements, cash-flow statements, and more. It offers a user-friendly interface and easily integrates with other systems, including CRM, email marketing, time tracking tools, and e-commerce & payment tools.
Though QuickBooks offers a mobile app, many users complained about it being slow and faced on-the-go connectivity issues. Others faced issues such as system crashes, fewer customization options, limited inventory management, syncing problems and missed entries, transaction limitations, and lack of technical support.
QuickBooks offers four pricing plans for small, medium, and large businesses with a discount of 50% on the first three months.

Xero is an all-in-one accounting platform that provides small business owners with instant visibility of their financial position by collecting critical accounting data from multiple sources and presenting it in comprehensive reports and charts format. With simplified expense claim tools and invoicing management features, it allows you to get a quote, send an invoice, track your customers, and accept online payments in multiple currencies.
The standout features of Xero include an unlimited number of users as well as full reporting functionality on all pricing plans and automatic payment reminders to customers.
Some limitations do exist with Xero as users have to pay an extra fee for payroll integration such as Gusto. Also, some users suggested that Xero could improve in certain areas such as reporting, tracking, more integrations, inventory control, bank feeds stability, better reconciliation, and a mobile app. Many users faced an issue with the support as they offer only online support and no customer service over phone calls.
Xero comes in three pricing tiers, with 50% off for the first three months and additional add ons with additional charges such as Payroll with Gusto.
A sales dashboard is a graphical representation of data that allows executives and sales managers to monitor and control their sales KPIs, analyze sales funnels, identify issues, track team’s performance, and set future sales growth targets. It’s crucial that the sales team has a 360-degree view of all sales data at their fingertips all the time. Some of the common examples of sales dashboards include sales performance board, conversion board, cycle length board, leaderboard, product performance board, and sales team activities board.
Salesforce is one of the leading CRM platforms that helps businesses of all sizes accelerate sales, forecast revenues, automate workflows, boost productivity, and enhance customer engagement. In addition to a ton of features and integrations, most business users love it for its user-friendly and intuitive interface, high customizability, and robust reporting functions. With its powerful AI companion, Sales Cloud Einstein, it helps the sales team make smart moves by suggesting what actions to take or what deals to close first based on past data.
On the downside, Salesforce is quite expensive for small businesses with a steep learning curve and difficulty in the initial implementation. Some users complained they often  get lost in tons of features and have difficulty in finding what they require. The software can be laggy at times, face connectivity issues, and cause syncing problems.
Sales Cloud offers four pricing editions:
Formerly known as Base CRM, Zendesk Sell is a sales automation and analytics platform that provides sales professionals with actionable insights to generate more leads, enhance productivity, engage with customers, and accelerate revenue growth. With a robust sales reporting feature, the sales team can monitor sales quotas and track sales funnels, all via their mobile phones.
With its quick implementation, clean layout, and ease of use, sales reps can get the system up and running in no time. It improves their efficiency and saves a lot of time by eliminating manual data entry and admin work.
Some users found it not very well integrated and lacking in some advanced features and reporting capabilities. Others faced issues with mobile app notifications, call features, customization, and email threads. Also, customer support could be a little more attentive to customer queries.
In addition to a free trial, Zendesk Sell comes in four pricing tiers, billed annually.
An IT dashboard or CIO dashboard is an essential tool for IT professionals to have an overview of IT infrastructure and allows them to identify any issues and keep track of KPIs. IT reporting software saves time, streamlines workflows, sends automatic alerts, and provides a real-time view of key indicators.
Some of the key elements and metrics included in an IT dashboard are requests per second, system uptime & downtime, security updates & response time, ongoing & upcoming projects, and deadlines.
Sisense is one of the leading and most comprehensive business intelligence (BI) platforms that provides real-time analytics and visual representation of mashup data from all available resources. The most useful dashboards include the user engagement dashboard and cybersecurity analytics dashboard. It allows system administrators to customize dashboards and create personalized access for different users.
The top features of Sisense include high-quality visuals, accurate real-time data analysis, a drag-and-drop interface, high-speed data sync, data unification, and data mashups.
The major drawbacks of Sisense are limited workflow options, difficulty in sharing customized dashboards, and fewer support functions. A few users also complained about slow servers, export function errors, difficulty in finding hidden functions, complicated JavaScript & APIs, and troubleshooting issues.
Sisense offers a free trial for your IT department and a subscription-based pricing plan. You can request a quote by contacting the software vendor.
Datapine helps data-driven companies and c-level executives gain visibility into business operations with strong analytics and a self-service platform. With an intuitive interface and easy-to-understand graphics, users of all skill levels can make sense of even the most complex data. IT dashboards include an IT project management dashboard, IT issue management dashboard, IT cost dashboard, and CTO dashboard. They help IT staff manage daily activities, track expenses, resolve queries and tickets, fix bugs, maintain security, and automate processes.
As it’s mainly targeted at data scientists, some of the advanced features might get too technical for non-technical users, particularly SQL mode. Such users suggested that Datapine should offer more tutorials and a knowledge base for using complex features.
Though Datapine offers a free trial, the pricing information is not available. Contact the service provider to get a plan tailored to your business needs.
Business Intelligence (BI) software is a comprehensive set of tools that collect unstructured data from various internal and external resources and transform it into insightful and visually compelling reports to help businesses make informed decisions.
Below are two all-in-one BI tools that combine the capabilities of marketing, sales, finance, and IT reporting softwares under one roof to provide a comprehensive overview to business owners.
Being a Gartner-recognized leader for nine years, Tableau is an integrated analytics platform that helps businesses explore and visualize data without technical headaches. The solution can be installed on-premises or hosted on the cloud as a SaaS.
With its interactive dashboards and drag and drop functionality, users of all skill levels can easily generate relevant reports and interpret statistical data. Formerly known as Einstein Analytics, Tableau CRM is natively built into the Salesforce platform and provides AI and machine learning (ML) capabilities. Powerful data visualization and the ability to handle large data sets are the most significant features that make it a leading BI tool.
Tableau could be expensive for small businesses. It also has a steep learning curve, so users may require training to be able to use it to its full extent. Some users faced performance issues, slow updates, and a lack of support.
Tableau is available for individuals, teams, and enterprises in two deployments:
Tableau Server is billed annually and offers either on-premise or public cloud deployment.
Tableau Online is fully hosted by Tableau, and provides similar features as Tableau Server.
With a wide range of robust datasets and connectors, strong visualization features, and unique social sharing capabilities, Domo Business Cloud offers viable support to businesses by transforming raw data into intuitive insights. With Domo’s low-code or full-code functions, companies can develop their own analytics packages that standardize and automate business practices. Domo also provides best-in-class security features with two-factor authentication, SSO integration, BYOK encryption, and personalized data permissions.
On the downside, Domo can be complicated in some areas, and the initial implementation may take some time and require tutorials and support. Also, reporting, customization, formatting, and filtering features need improvement, according to some users.
Domo software vendor hasn’t provided any upfront subscription plans. You can try it for free or contact Domo’s sales team to get a personalized quote.
Businesses can easily deploy reporting software with no prior training and can reap the benefits of various features such as detailed reports, data visualization, sharing capabilities, predictive and embedded analytics, and AI functionalities.
A reporting tool should align with your business goals and have the following features:
With a plethora of different reporting tools available in the marketplace, businesses find it challenging to find the right software for their reporting and analytics needs. While assessing your needs, you must ask yourself these questions: What is your business type and size? Which tools and features are you going to need the most? Who will be using the software in your organization? and How much flexibility, scalability, and customization capabilities do you need now and in the future?
Your team can try the free trials offered by various software vendors before making the final purchase decision.

- Stanley Black & Decker convenes panel to discuss the state of the trades
NEW BRITAIN, Conn., April 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK) today released the results of its inaugural Makers Index, an in-depth research study examining sentiment about skilled trade careers in the United States, specifically among young people and their parents, with the goal of better understanding some of the underlying causes of the skilled trade labor shortage.
Experience the interactive Multichannel News Release here: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/88420511-stanley-black-and-decker-inaugural-makers-index/

The study surveyed three core audiences1 – high schoolers aged 14-19, parents of high schoolers and skilled trade workers – and the findings revealed a paradox that underscores the challenges associated with the skilled trade shortage: young people are not seriously considering it. While 85% of young people and 94% of parents think that skilled trade work is a good quality career option in general, less than half (49%) of youth have ever considered a skilled trade career and far fewer (16%) are very likely to consider a skilled trade career.
"The skilled labor shortage is one of the biggest challenges facing the U.S. economy, with 650,000 open jobs in the construction industry alone," said Stanley Black & Decker CEO Jim Loree. "This problem existed long before the pandemic but has certainly been exacerbated by it. We must address this issue, or we risk even greater labor shortages in the future. The Makers Index study reveals a pathway to solve this challenge: collectively, there is more we can do to make trade careers resonate with young people. We can increase career and technical education (CTE) programs at schools and ensure students appreciate the income potential and lifestyle advantages of skilled trade careers. Businesses, government, civic leaders, educators, school administers, teachers and parents play a critical role in helping to develop and nurture the next generation of skilled trade workers. Working together, we can make progress toward solving the skilled trades shortage."
A closer look at the data reveals four key drivers of the skilled trades gap:
1. Misunderstanding of long-term financial security
Not surprisingly, 81% of young people and 78% of parents are concerned about the potential cost of education after high school. Perhaps as a result, 87% of young people and 93% of parents say starting a career sooner than it takes to finish a four-year degree is appealing. The skilled trades could offer young people a way forward, but young people are underestimating the starting earning potential for skilled trades. Only 42% expect skilled trade workers to earn at least $50,000, and 19% of young people think the starting pay for a skilled trade worker is less than $20,000. In fact, half of current skilled trade workers with less than 10 years' experience earned at least $50,000 to start.
Of the younger people surveyed, 43% were much more positive about a skilled trade career when presented with the fact that after five years, a person who attends trade school and then starts working will be $140,000 ahead, on average, compared to a student who enrolls in a four-year college before working.
2. Incorrect knowledge of required skills
There has long been a narrative that young people don't want to enter the skilled trades because they dislike the idea of working in manual labor, but of the 40% of young people who don't believe a skilled trade career is a good option, only 12% cited a dislike of manual labor as their primary reason. The main reason cited by those 40% of young people – by a long margin – was poor fit or lack of skills. Broadening an understanding of the skills needed for a skilled trade career can help address this sentiment.
At the same time, most young people have outdated perceptions of the trades, with 23% disagreeing that skilled tradespeople work with cutting edge technology and 18% disagreeing about the work being high in demand. Those beliefs are in contrast with reality: 89% of workers said they work with cutting-edge technology and 94% say that their jobs are high in demand.
3. Lack of exposure to individuals currently in trade profession
Young people lean heavily on people they know – including parents (48%), friends and classmates (44%) as well as teachers (43%) – for help and information related to post-high school planning. But only 42% have had a conversation about skilled trade careers with someone in those fields, while 37% have never had a conversation with anyone about skilled trade careers. It's no wonder that only 29% feel very well informed about how to start down the path of these careers.
Media and entertainment still play an important role in shaping career choices. More than six in 10 skilled workers with less than 10 years of experience said that media (print, online, social, ads, etc.) was influential and helpful in thinking about career plans, with the internet (32%) and social media (21%) being primary drivers.
4. Continued male-dominated industry
When it comes to skilled trades, there are discrepancies in knowledge, consideration and appeal between genders. When asked about their familiarity with skilled trades, teen boys are more familiar than teen girls (53% vs. 36%), and in thinking about the future, boys are more likely to consider a career in a skilled trade (64% vs. 49%). When asked if a skilled trade career seems like a good option for them, 69% of boys agree, but only 52% of girls agree. This same dynamic exists among parents. While men and women have the same opinions about whether skilled trades careers are good-quality options, men are more than twice as likely as women to say a skilled trade career is a very appealing option for their child (47% to 22%). To help solve the skilled talent shortage, there needs to be a focus on driving more engagement with women to help them become more aware of these careers and their benefits.
Makers Index Virtual Discussion: Drilling Into the Skilled Trades Shortage
Stanley Black & Decker hosted a virtual panel to dive deep into the Makers Index results, explore the underlying causes behind the skilled trades labor shortage and shed light on opportunities available within the industry.
The discussion was moderated by TV host and car enthusiast, Cristy Lee, a Stanley Black & Decker CRAFTSMAN® Tools Ambassador, and participating panelists included Shannon Lapierre, Chief Communications Officer for Stanley Black & Decker; John Malecki, YouTuber, custom wood and metal worker, and former NFL Lineman; and Abby Leonard, a fourth-year welding apprentice with Poole & Kent.
Empowering Future Makers
In 2021, Stanley Black & Decker launched the Empower Makers Global Impact Challenge, a five-year, up to $25 million commitment to fund vocational skills training and reskilling programs in the construction and manufacturing sectors. The Impact Challenge is expected to skill and reskill up to three million makers over the next five years. The company recently announced the first Makers Grants to 86 nonprofits including high schools, community colleges, construction-focused programs, makerspaces and vocational & trade schools. These recipients will create vital trade programs and help new generations learn how they can help build what matters. The full list of recipients can be found here.
In addition, the company has established partnerships with organizations who are working to drive awareness and help close the skilled trades gap. These partnerships include:

About the Makers Index
Stanley Black & Decker created two indices as part of this research: the Knowledge & Perception Index and the Advocacy Index. The Knowledge & Perception Index scores factors that influence consideration of a skilled trade career among youths and parents, including familiarity and perceptions, while the Advocacy Index scores factors that influence the likelihood of a skilled trade worker to recommend a skilled trade career to a young person, including job satisfaction.
In this benchmark study, youth scored a 62.4 out of a possible 100 on the Knowledge & Perception Index, while parents scored a noticeably higher 76.0. On their own index, workers scored very high as advocates – at 84.6 – driven by strong satisfaction and positive assessments of their career fields.
Full Makers Index findings and results can be found here
Survey Methodology
KRC designed and fielded an online survey from August 30 and September 13, 2021, targeting three audiences: Youth (N=801), Parents (N=200), and Skilled Trade Workers (N=502)

I’m a bargain hunter – I bought two barbecue grills worth $600 at Kroger for just $60, the scanning trick I... - The US Sun

KROGER has deals that are 80 percent off and you can find discounts too by using a simple trick.
If you don't have the Kroger app, don't wait any longer as you may be missing out on deals.
A TikTok influencer, also known as Couponwithkayla, shared how she purchased two grills for nearly 80 percent off.
Each grill was originally $299.99, but Kayla bought it for just $30.
She bought two grills — ultimately saving $539.98.
"Remember that you can use the Kroger app to scan the items to check the price," Kayla said.
"Use the Kroger app to scan the clearance items to check the prices. Clearance shopping is such an easy way to save money," she wrote in her caption.
Also, clearance deals can be found in the yellow price tags in the store.
There are other ways to save through the app other than using the scanning function.
Coupons for example, may pop up at times and you can use them to save money.
One TikTok influencer bought a Dove cream, which was $3.99 for one.
The Kroger app popped up a $1 digital coupon for up to five products, so she used it on her cream bringing the price down to $2.99.
Knowing when to shop at Kroger is also an important factor to consider.
There is an event at Kroger that happens several times a year known as Mega Event Pricing.
One thing to keep in mind is that customers have to buy the number of items specified in that promo to qualify for the discount.

Honoring People Who Make a Difference in Cybersecurity
BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in cybersecurity training and certifications, today announced that the call for nominations for the SANS 2022 Difference Makers Awards is open. SANS is accepting nominations for individuals, teams, and groups from within the SANS community who have implemented security processes or technology in 2022 that resulted in meaningful and measurable advances in security.
Nominations are open through October 24, 2022.

The SANS Difference Makers Awards honor people who make a difference in cybersecurity
This year, SANS has expanded the Difference Maker Awards to include new categories and celebrate the most influential champions, focused on building the next generation.  A "people's choice" popular vote will also be featured this year. Nominations are open now, and the awards ceremony will take place in December.

Awards categories include:
"Over the past ten years, we've had a very diverse and global group of people celebrated as Difference Makers," said SANS Director of Emerging Security Trends John Pescatore. "SANS Difference Makers have gone on to both raise the bar on cybersecurity and inspire others to do so as well."
The common denominator in each nominee is their willingness and ability to do what SANS calls "Fight the Good Fight" in advancing the state of practice in cybersecurity.
Nominations will be evaluated by a team from SANS, security industry analysts, and thought leaders. Winners will be announced and celebrated in December in-person at the SANS Cyber Defense Initiative® 2022 training event. How to Find and Work With Suppliers - Entrepreneur

Signing out of account, Standby...
Whether you're looking for raw materials for manufacturing or finished products to resell, this guide will help you find and forge great relationships with suppliers.
are essential to almost every . Without to make what you sell or manufacturers to provide what you resell, you will have a tough time growing. There are also many supplies and services your business consumes as part of general overhead, from paper clips to Internet access.
Suppliers and vendors-the terms are used interchangeably here-can do much more than merely supply you with the materials and services you need to do business. They can also be important sources of information, helping you evaluate the potential of new products, track competitors' actions and identify promising opportunities. Vendors can turn into partners, helping you cut costs, improve product designs and even fund new efforts. If you don't make selecting good suppliers and vendors a part of your growth plan, you're likely to regret it.
Evaluating Your Suppliers and Vendors
Suppliers can be divided into four general categories. They are:
What Makes a Good Supplier?
A lot of growing companies focus on one trait of their suppliers: price. And price certainly is important when you are selecting suppliers to accompany you as you grow your business. But there's more to a supplier than an invoice-and more to the cost of doing business with a supplier than the amount on a purchase order. Remember, too, that suppliers are in business to make money. If you go to the mat with them on every bill, ask them to shave prices on everything they sell to you, or fail to pay your bills promptly, don't be surprised if they stop calling.
After price, reliability is probably the key factor to look for in suppliers. Good suppliers will ship the right number of items, as promised, on time so that they arrive in good shape. Sometimes you can get the best reliability from a large supplier. These companies have the resources to devote to backup systems and sources so that, if something goes wrong, they can still live up to their responsibilities to you. However, don't neglect small suppliers. If you're a large customer of a small company, you'll get more attention and possibly better service and reliability than if you are a small customer of a large supplier. You should also consider splitting your orders among two smaller firms. This can provide you with a backup as well as a high profile.
Stability is another key indicator. You'll want to sign up with vendors who have been in business a long time and have done so without changing businesses every few years. A company that has long-tenured senior executives is another good sign, and a solid reputation with other customers is a promising indicator that a company is stable. When it comes to your own experience, look for telltale signs of vendor trouble, such as shipments that arrive earlier than you requested them-this can be a sign of a vendor that is short on orders and needs to accelerate cash receipts.
Don't forget location. Merchandise ordered from a distant supplier can take a long time to get to you and generate added freight charges quickly. Find out how long a shipment will take to arrive at your loading dock. If you are likely to need something fast, a distant supplier could present a real problem. Also, determine supplier freight policies before you order. If you order a certain quantity, for instance, you may get free shipping. You may be able to combine two or more orders into one and save on freight. Even better, find a comparable supplier closer to home to preserve cost savings and ordering flexibility.
Finally, there's a grab bag of traits that could generally be termed competency. You'll want suppliers who can offer the latest, most advanced products and services. They'll need to have well-trained employees to sell and service their goods. They should be able to offer you a variety of attractive financial terms on purchases. And they should have a realistic attitude toward you, their customer, so that they're willing and eager to work with you to grow both your businesses.
Changing Your Supplier Relationships
You may not need to find new suppliers to get a new deal. You can usually get discounts, obtain improved service and receive other features you need by making a request of your current suppliers-although it may not be as simple as merely asking. Here are some of the options and negotiating strategies for turning mediocre suppliers into top-shelf ones.
Making a Change
Having fewer vendors is usually better than having many vendors. Reducing the number of vendors you deal with cuts the administrative costs of working with many. Closer relationships with fewer vendors allow you to work together to control costs. Getting rid of troublesome vendors can quickly increase the efficiency of your purchasing and administrative staffs. So how do you decide when to change vendors? Here are keys areas to consider:

Meet Iowa auditor candidates running in midterm elections 2022 - Des Moines Register

Two candidates are competing to represent Iowa as state auditor, acting as the taxpayer's watchdog by providing audits of the financial operations of Iowa's state and local governments.
Incumbent Democrat Rob Sand is running against Republican Todd Halbur, a small business owner and licensed Realtor.
To help voters, the Des Moines Register sent questions to all federal, statewide and Des Moines area legislative candidates running for political office this year. Their answers have been lightly edited for length and clarity.
More:A guide to voter rights in Iowa. What you need to know before you cast a ballot
Early voting begins Oct. 19 for the Nov. 8 election.
Age: 55
Party: Republican
Where did you grow up? Carroll
Current town of residence: Clive
Education: Bachelor's degree in business, University of Iowa
Occupation: Small business owner of a school supply distribution company and licensed Realtor
Political experience and civic activities: From 2008-13 my wife and I founded and operated a nonprofit, Teacher Tools 4 Tomorrow, that provided teachers in lower-income schools throughout Iowa with classroom supplies. Several volunteer hours at school activities, school sports and church activities.
More:Where Brenna Bird & Tom Miller stand on key issues in Iowa attorney general race
Age: 40
Party: Democrat
Where did you grow up? Decorah
Current town of residence: Des Moines
Education: Decorah High School, Brown University, University of Iowa Law School
Occupation: State auditor
Political experience and civic activities: Iowa Auditor since January 2019
Halbur: Our government does not have any money. It just has all our money that it collects and spends. The primary role of the auditor’s office is to make sure our government is accountable to the taxpayers of Iowa. Our government needs to be accountable to taxpayers on what it collects and spends according to the code of law. I believe Iowa needs an auditor with the financial background and qualifications that I have as a prior banker and CFO of a State of Iowa Agency.
Sand: The state auditor is the taxpayer’s watchdog. I ran in 2018 to “wake up the watchdog," and we’ve done that. In my first term, we identified more than $25 million in misspent funds, a record. We created a government efficiency program, Public Innovations & Efficiencies (PIE), that saves so much taxpayer money the state of Mississippi copied it already. In my second term, I would continue and expand our aggressive approach, find ways to make bank accounts with public dollars more readily visible and continue advocating for no more mere probation for those who steal tax dollars.
More:What Iowa ag secretary candidates Mike Naig & John Norwood say about eminent domain, ethanol
Halbur: I would work closely with the Legislature and governor’s office to ensure that the laws they pass and put into code are enforced according to the rule of law. I would ensure our government is fiscally responsible with our tax dollars according to the state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
Sand: I’ve called new legislators from both parties after their election wins to make sure they have my contact information and have reached out to the governor’s office on numerous occasions. We will continue to follow our office’s standard procedures for advance notice before reports are issued. I will continue to recommend ideas to the Legislature to save and protect tax dollars. But I will always put my job duty of investigating and informing the public of waste, fraud and abuse ahead of those relationships, because I’m here to serve the public, not the insiders.
More:See where Iowa candidates stand on key issues in the 2022 midterm elections
Halbur: 1. Save taxpayer money by eliminating fraud, waste and abuse.
2. Cities with a population of less than 2,000 people and budgets under $1 million dollars for example are only audited every eight years. We need to increase these exams to every 2 years at least to ensure better government accountability to all taxpayers of Iowa in our small cities.
3. Make and save money for the taxpayers by streamlining and creating efficiencies in government. For example, the state of Iowa needs to get out of the taxpayer-funded monopoly booze business. The state of Iowa liquor wholesale business needs to be put into the hands of private distributors like all the private beer wholesalers in Iowa.
Sand: I hold Transparency Tuesdays at 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays on Facebook Live where people can ask questions of me. We will continue to demand transparency from state government as well. For example, we took the University of Iowa to the Supreme Court and won, to force it to turn over documents. What I will never do is violate our office’s legal confidentiality requirements or cave under the weight of political requests or even lawsuits trying to chip away, in any way, at our obligation to protect whistleblowers. I have rejected such requests from both Republican and Democratic entities.
More:Where are the fiercest races for the Iowa Legislature? Most lie in the Des Moines suburbs
Halbur: I have already been a taxpayer watchdog for all Iowans. I uncovered illegal business activity at the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division while being their CFO. Over the last 10-plus years the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division has collected from Iowans more than $50 million dollars in illegal excess profits from what is allowed by state law. My priority to protect Iowa taxpayers from this continued illegal business activity would be to have a full third-party independent special investigation audit of the agency.
Sand: 1. Continue our aggressive approach to identify misspent funds. I hired law enforcement officers and have brought my background as Iowa’s main public corruption prosecutor to our work. A northeast Iowa Republican told me he’s never seen bureaucrats more nervous about what the state auditor thinks. Good.
2. Grow the PIE program. This efficiency program saw a 55% increase in participation. I want to continue to collect and spread ideas from Iowans that save taxpayer dollars.
3. Focus on truth, not partisanship, by continuing to defend the opposite party and criticize my own when appropriate, including outside my job duties.
More:What Iowa secretary of state candidates Paul Pate & Joel Miller say about voting, elections
Halbur: The office is called the taxpayer watchdog, but I want to be a voice for all taxpayers, not just a watchdog for a certain political office. I don’t view it as a political office. I see it as a place of destination for a qualified financial candidate to do the auditing job who has a financial agenda, not a political agenda. As a political outsider, I will be a fresh voice with common sense ideas for 21st-century finance and a fighter for all Iowa taxpayers.
Sand: I appointed a Republican, an independent and a Democrat to my senior leadership team. I’ve repeatedly promoted people in the office who made campaign contributions to my opponent in 2018, while this year informing staff they are not allowed to contribute to me. Our obligation is to truth, integrity and accountability. As a result, we have criticized the governor, but we’ve also defended her — like our audit of COVID-19 data. This balance assures Iowans we work for them, no matter who they are and no matter who they complain about.

Best laptops for engineering students 2022 - PCWorld

When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. This doesn't affect our editorial independence.
There are a ton of laptop deals now that back-to-school season is in full swing. If you’re an engineering student, you’re going to need a machine that can handle resource-intensive coursework. A powerful CPU and loads of memory and storage are an absolute must. Portability is an important factor too, especially if you’re going from class to class. If you’re not sure where to begin your search, don’t sweat it. We’ve assembled a list of laptops that are perfect for engineering students, as they’re both powerful and portable. Read on to learn more.
[Looking for something different? Check out our picks for the best laptops for college students!]
Pros
Cons
The Dell XPS 17 has a lot going for it. You’re getting blazing-fast performance, a vivid display, and long battery life. The laptop also offers four Thunderbolt 4 ports. For internal components, it’s rocking an Intel Core i7-12700H CPU, an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of SSD storage. That’s a ton of memory and storage, which is a good thing if you’re using a lot of resource-intensive programs. We had a few nitpicks with the machine, however.
The XPS 17 weighs over five pounds, so it’s a real beast. The keyboard is less than impressive, as the keys feel shallow and the bottoming action is rather springy. It’s expensive, too. If you can live with those minor shortcomings, the XPS 17 is a phenomenal choice. According to our tester, this laptop “delivers solid results across the board.” That goes for both CPU and GPU performance.
Pros
Cons
If you’re looking to save some cash, the Acer Aspire 5 is a worthy choice. According to our reviewer, it packs a lot of “RAM and SSD space for not a lot of money.” Engineering students need quite a bit of memory and storage in order to effectively run software like Java and Python. It features an Intel Core i5-1235U CPU, Intel Xe integrated graphics, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of NVMe PCIe SSD storage. There’s also a wide range of connectivity options and you can upgrade the memory by removing the back panel. While the battery life and keyboard leave little to be desired, we feel the pros far outweigh the cons. This is a fantastic pick for the budget-conscious student, that’s for sure.
Pros
Cons
Need a lightweight laptop to take with you to class? The Acer Swift 5 will surely fit the bill, as it weighs a little under three pounds. It also has a compact design, a 1080p webcam, and impressive battery life. The 14-inch display is “bright and spacious” thanks to the 16:10 aspect ratio and 2560×1600 resolution. Under the hood, you’ll find an Intel Core i7-1260P CPU, Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage. The only real knock we have against this machine is the undersized touchpad. However, it’s not a deal-breaker, as you can always plug into an external mouse. It’s a charming little laptop that’s both zippy and travel-friendly.
Pros
Cons
The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro offers awesome gaming performance, a diverse range of port options, a durable design, and much more. The pricing is also competitive and it can easily handle schoolwork as well as late-night gaming sessions. But let’s dive into the most important aspects: the guts!
This laptop is rocking an Intel Core i7-12700H CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage. Our tester claimed the laptop “screamed at 148 frames-per-second” while running the intensive Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark. As for the 16-inch display, it has a resolution of 2560×1600 and a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz. The screen is definitely bright, but it’s not as vibrant as others we’ve seen. If you’re looking for a versatile laptop that can do it all—work and play—look no further than the Legion 5 Pro.
Pros
Cons
If you’re an engineering student, chances are you’re going to be spending a lot of time staring at a screen. You might as well invest in a good one then, right? Well, the HP Pavilion Plus 14 has a gorgeous OLED display. The 14-inch screen has a resolution of 2880×1800, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a 90Hz refresh rate. According to our tester, the display produces “incredible contrast and deep blacks” as well as a “sharp picture” overall. As for the internal components, it has an Intel Core i7-12700H CPU, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage. While we loved the superb display and durable all-metal chassis, we weren’t thrilled with the short battery life and the low contrast between the keys. Nitpicks aside, this is a great pick if you suffer from eye strain and tension headaches.
The PCWorld team puts every Windows laptop through a series of intense benchmarks that test GPU and CPU performance, battery life, and so on. The idea is to push the laptop to its limits and then compare it against others we’ve tested. Below, you’ll find a breakdown of each test and the reasons why we run them.
Whether you’re a mechanical or civil engineering student, you’re going to need a relatively powerful laptop that can handle heavy coursework. The most important components to consider are the processor, the memory, and the storage. Portability is another important factor, especially if you’re looking to take your laptop to class with you.
You’re going to need a good amount of processing power for engineering tasks, so we’d recommend an Intel Core i5 or higher. However, an Intel Core i7 is considered ideal. This type of processor is good for multitasking, gaming, and demanding workloads.
Absolutely! The amount of RAM directly impacts the speed of your programs. Engineering students will likely be living in programs like Java and Python, so making sure those programs run smoothly is absolutely vital. The bare minimum we’d recommend is 8GB, but 16GB is better.
You’re going to need quite a bit of space for a slew of engineering programs, so we’d recommend at least 512GB of SSD (solid state drive) storage. If you want more space and have the budget for it, go for 1TB of NVMe SSD storage.
You don’t want to be lugging a five pound beast from class to class. A portable laptop should weigh about three pounds or less. In terms of portability and value, we suggest buying a laptop with a 13- or 14-inch display.
