National News and Press Releases. Local and Regional Perspectives. Media Advisories.
News in Focus. Corporate Analytics. Brand Reviews. Policy Commentaries.
kathy ireland® Worldwide (kiWW®), acknowledged earlier this year as the “most valuable woman-owned licensing firm in American history” by WWD, is expanding the company’s fashion presence with a stunning ensemble of licensing partners.
Kathy Ireland said, “Fashion Week illuminates such extraordinary memories. This is the ideal time to announce our growth in the category our company knows best. 7th Avenue and its leaders are home. We believe many will be surprised by the assortment of wonderful clients, put together for us by our astounding Lee Mandelbaum and his great team at Legacy Licensing and Price Point Buying. Great appreciation to Linda Mandelbaum of Rylex, whose brilliance is with us every step of the way. Congratulations and welcome, with special thanks to the Hanan family of PPI, for believing in us when few doors in apparel were open, as well as our initial and beloved partners John and Marilyn Moretz.”
Jon Carrasco and Stephen Roseberry, Worldwide Creative Director and President / CMO for kiWW, respectively, said: “We could not be happier with the leaders in these industries. Kathy, in tandem with Rocco Ingemi, our EVP of Fashion & Fine Jewelry, cautioned patience as we quietly grew these categories with extraordinary people. This year, our brand was named the 19th most successful brand worldwide, as published by License Global. Kathy became the youngest woman to enter the Licensing Hall of Fame, as well as the youngest Icon in the Furniture Industry, awarded by the IHFRA (International Home Furnishings Representatives Association). Kathy serves on the Boards of Directors for the NFLPI and WNBPA, Board of Advisors for Serena Williams, International Youth Chair for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, with over 25 hospitals in their portfolio. Co-Founder of Providence, a Christian education program, serving students from pre to prep school. Kathy is a member of the James Madison Program at Princeton University and is a Major Donor and Ambassador for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. In addition to becoming the first civilian to serve on the National Board of Gastroenterology and bring awareness to Sheba Medical Center, frequently referred to as Tel Hashomer in Tel Aviv, Israel; UCLA acknowledges Kathy as one of the top ten women’s health advocates in America – an honor which came after Kathy’s leadership in establishing neonatal intensive care units throughout America. Last year, Kathy’s accomplishments were honored by the International Religious Freedom Award, and she works tirelessly for human rights advocacy, speaking to the world from platforms as diverse as the United Nations, Forbes Global Conferences and educational forums including Harvard University. Kathy speaks many languages, and utilizing fashion, as well as her proceeds from it, to make our world better, is one of her greatest passions. Our additional clients will be announced in October.”
Announcements include a multi-year renewal with PPI for continuing kathy ireland® Sleepwear & Intimate Apparel – a partnership which has achieved over 100 million dollars in sales in its first five years. “We believed in the power of the kathy ireland® brand from day one, and it continues to gather momentum and a powerful place in the fashion industry. After years of standing on our own, it’s great to be joined by leading partners in the apparel industry. We have renewed our agreement with kathy ireland® Worldwide for many years, because the brand is exquisite, and Kathy and her team are incredible, innovative people. Kathy is the real deal,” said Abe Hanan, on behalf of PPI.
MIVI™, the kathy ireland® Worldwide imprint which launched with men’s underwear and loungewear with PPI, is now expanding into men’s jewelry with Guild Consulting, as well as handwear from fashion to utility by Stout Gloves.
kathy ireland® Worldwide 2022 fashion licensing launches include renowned manufacturer Ikeddi for bestselling sportswear, pantsuits and daytime dresses.
Bagatelle International, specializing in outerwear, special occasion dress and denim will premiere on HSN in October, and become available at Macy’s, among other luxury retailers later this year. President of Bagatelle Inc. Jamie Litvack notes, “We are honored to partner with Kathy, one of the most successful and empowering female entrepreneurs of our time. As soon as we met Kathy and her team, we knew we were all in.”
Siskind, one of the nation’s largest brand leaders, has acquired the license for slippers.
Guild Consulting is the licensee for men and women’s jewelry. Ms. Ireland acknowledges Elizabeth Taylor as her beloved friend and mentor, as well as a great inspiration in fine jewelry design.
Swim fashion leader Amerex, has acquired the license in this iconic category from kathy ireland Worldwide.
BHFO.com, a national leader in online retail, features the finest brands, including Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren, will now add kathy ireland® to its roster of designers.
The multi-year agreements and relationships were negotiated by Lee Mandelbaum of Legacy Licensing and Price Point Buying NYC. Mr. Mandelbaum exclusively represents kathy ireland® Worldwide fashion, in tandem with long term kiWW partners, John and Marilyn Moretz of Moretz Marketing.
Rylex LLC principal, Linda Mandelbaum, represents multiple categories for kathy ireland® Worldwide, including gardening, home, fintech, and more.
“This is a spectacular time for Kathy to re-emerge into an industry in which she became a global fashion icon,” says Rona Menashe, CEO of Guttman Associates, Kathy Ireland and kiWW longtime media relations representative.
New York Fashion week is held in February and September of each year. It is a semi-annual series of events when international fashion collections are shown to buyers, the press, and the general public.
One of the least-known accomplishments of kathy ireland® Worldwide is its enormous entertainment sector. kiWW is responsible for presenting the reboot of The Waltons’ Thanksgiving, which will be re-broadcast on HBO this year, partnering with the 5th largest music company in the world BMG, whose artists include Tina Turner, Bruno Mars, along with 7-time Grammy Award winners Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr., stars of The Original 5th Dimension, whose “blackbird: Lennon-McCartney Icons” album returned the duo to the Billboard charts after an absence of nearly 40 years, and became #1 on iTunes. The music was produced by Nic Mendoza, who is in studio now with the couple, recording their second and third BMG/kathy ireland Worldwide EE1 albums. SWC/kiWW has guided the careers of Janet Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli, and legendary vocalist and king of the Great American Songbook, Michael Feinstein.

Fry's Electronics appears in trailer for Jordan Peele's 'Nope' - SFGATE
Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya walk through the aisles of Fry's Electronics in a new trailer for Jordan Peele's "Nope."
Fans of horror master Jordan Peele are eagerly anticipating his latest sci-fi thriller, “Nope,” and Bay Area viewers were all over the new trailer released on Thursday when they discovered the filmmaker had brought a favorite local retail chain back from the dead (at least for the big screen).
“Nope” follows Otis Jr. (Daniel Kaluuya) and Emerald Haywood (Keke Palmer), siblings at the helm of a deserted California ranch where their late father trained horses for Hollywood movies prior to his mysterious death. But when objects start to fall from the sky and other strange events occur, they attempt to cash in on the unexplained phenomenon and record evidence of suspected extraterrestrial activity with the help of — who else? — Fry’s Electronics employee Angel Torres (Brandon Perea) and skilled filmmaker Antlers Holst (Michael Wincott).
“This could be an opportunity. I’m talking rich and famous for life,” Palmer says to a dubious Kaluuya as they walk through the aisles of the now-defunct store in the trailer.
“There’s plenty of videos of flying s—t online,” Kaluuya responds.
“Ain’t nobody going to get what we going to get,” Palmer insists. “The money shot. Undeniable proof of aliens on camera.”
Check out the full trailer below:
🛸pic.twitter.com/QegrvNJ30s
Founded in Silicon Valley in 1985, Fry’s Electronics announced it would close all 30 of its existing locations in February 2021, and filming for “Nope” was underway later that summer. The store in the trailer bears the unmistakable (and apropos) 1950s sci-fi theme of the Burbank outpost, though it’s unclear whether the movie was actually filmed there or if the interior was replicated on a Los Angeles sound stage. (SFGATE reached out to Universal for confirmation but did not hear back by time of publication.)
I'm glad NOPE will act as a time capsule - capturing the majesty that was once FRY'S for posterity. Goodbye, you strange beautiful electronics stores. pic.twitter.com/rHd1KFnHtR
It’s not the first time one of Peele’s films has had a striking Bay Area connection. His critically acclaimed hit “Us” showed off the dark side of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, while the score featured Oakland rap duo Luniz’s “I Got 5 on it.” And last year, Nia DaCosta’s remake of “Candyman” produced by Peele starred Oakland-raised actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
“Nope” premieres in theaters July 22.

Terraria 1.4.4 update finally adds equipment loadouts - PCGamesN
The Terraria 1.4.4 update Labor of Love is finally adding one much-requested feature, allowing players to save their equipment loadouts to quickly switch gear
Ken Allsop
Published: Jul 27, 2022
The Terraria 1.4.4 update is truly a Labor of Love, it seems – equipment loadouts, another much-requested feature, are confirmed for the next major Terraria patch. The option to quickly change out your gear loadout on the fly is one that Terraria players have been asking about for a long time, and the next update to the crafting game will finally give them that option.
Terraria programmer and lead developer Yorai ‘Yoraiz0r’ Omer shared the feature in a post on Twitter. Yorai says that the new gear loadouts allow for “more fishing and fighting, less inventory management!” In addition, players will be able to allocate distinct vanity options to each loadout, so you can match your fashion to the various activities you’re intending to undertake in.
Crucially, this includes your accessory slots as well as your armour pieces. This makes it very viable to set up the exact trinkets and gear you need to optimise for whatever you happen to be doing. For example, you can now kit out one loadout with your fishing line, angler earring, and tackle box to maximise your fish catching potential, while another loadout might feature the paint sprayer, extendo-grip, cement mixer, and brick layer to help with construction.
This will undoubtedly be hugely welcome among fans of the indie game, who have previously had to manually swap all of their equipped gear out when switching from exploration to fishing or combat, each of which usually requires its own set of armour and accessories. The ability to change your gear out on the fly will make general exploration a lot faster, and should make undertaking regular activities like catching the fish of the day feel much less like busywork.
It also might free players up for more cosmetic experimentation, too. One popular technique to get around the inventory space required to carry multiple gear sets is to put a second set of armour into your ‘vanity slots,’ which overwrite the visual appearance of each equipped gear piece with your chosen vanity ones. This frees up inventory space but means that you will always look like you’re wearing the armour set you’re keeping stored in the vanity slots.

In the replies to the original post, players ask whether this addition is “The Thing” that lead developer Andrew ‘Redigit’ Spinks has been teasing, to which he responds, “That’s the other The Thing.” It seems like there are still plenty more secrets in the works then – rather disconcertingly, Spinks says he is now also contemplating the possibility of adding “poo blocks” to the game.
Also confirmed to be on the way to the co-op game as part of the 1.4.4 Labor of Love update are a wolf necklace that evokes The Legend of Zelda, and an update to the endgame Ankh Shield accessory that has fans split on how it should be implemented.

Vegan Kitchen: New vegan restaurant in Biddeford, local vegan milk and more - Press Herald
Sign in or Subscribe See Offers
Biddeford gets a vegan restaurant, a locally made vegan milk concentrate hits grocery store shelves, and a local vegan website launches.
Apparently, the lazy days of summer don’t slow Maine’s vegan entrepreneurs. Instead, there’s been continued activity in the local plant-based space since spring, when I last reported on Maine’s veg news.
Earth at Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport offered an all plant-based menu for Earth Day, while in May, the first-ever Maine Fungi Fest took place at the Portland Expo with a menu of all-vegetarian food sold by PB&ME, the Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck and The Greenhouse by SAO.
Also in May, the Whole Life Natural Market in Machias added smoothie bowls, made with a choice of almond, coconut, oat or soy milk, to its cafe menu. Over in Arundel, Frinklepod Farm has expanded its offerings – a farm stand, vegetarian health food store, lunch cafe and vegan soft-serve ice cream – with an on-farm Airbnb. With vegan ice cream spreading fast across Maine, the newest vegan ice cream spot is the Craignair Inn in Spruce Head; the walk-up window always offers at least two vegan flavors.
Owner Lisa Giulianelli is seeking a buyer for her 10-year-old, all-vegan fruit tart business OATS Anytime, based in Palmyra. The listing price is $150,000.
Sadly, I heard some sad news in June: The long-running Taste of Eden Vegan Cafe in Norway has closed, leaving western Maine without a vegetarian restaurant. The owners said they needed to tend to personal issues. The cafe opened in Bethel in 2002 and moved to Norway in 2008. It also sold its frozen veggie burgers wholesale, and that business is closed as well.

Pure Mylk concentrate for sale
Portland resident Miriam Zefzaf has been making homemade nut milk in her kitchen for years. Rather than the traditional method of blending whole nuts with water then filtering out any chunks with a nut milk bag, Zefzaf starts by making nut butter, which she blends with water to create a creamy milk.
Originally, “it was granular and it separated, but it was fine for me,” Zefzaf said. Then the pandemic hit. That’s when her husband, who sells manufacturing machinery, suggested she sell her nut milk concentrate. She launched Pure Mylk, a nut milk concentrate, which requires less packaging than other nut milks. With the industrial grinder that now sits on a rolling table in her kitchen, Zefzaf can grind 20 pounds of nuts into a super creamy paste, about the consistency of tahini, she said, in three hours.
The resulting paste, either almond or cashew, is packed in 12-ounce glass jars (or 72-ounce jars for restaurants and wholesale customers). At home, customers mix one or two tablespoons with water in a blender to make nut milk. The milk can be consumed fresh or stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. A jar of Pure Mylk nut paste will last for up to a year.
One 12-ounce jar “saves six of the tetra packs from the landfill,” said Zefzaf, who also uses Pure Mylk in smoothies, chia puddings and vegan queso. Find it at Morning Glory Natural Foods in Brunswick, Amazon.com and puremylk.com, or, on Aug. 11, at the Yarmouth Farmers Market.

Vickie’s Veggie Table opens in Biddeford
Vegetarian restaurant Vickie’s Veggie Table, at 299 Main Street in Biddeford, is now open, giving the city a plant-based restaurant again. A juice and smoothie shop offering vegan sandwiches and salads, the restaurant was modeled after California juice bars, as well as spots here in Maine that the owners admire, such as Blake Orchard Juicery in Portland.
Mother-and-daughter Vickie Charity-McGurik and Melanie McGurik, both Biddeford High alums, own the restaurant. The two previously helped Charity-McGurik’s brother open and run a Maine-themed sandwich shop in Houston in 2014.
“Five years ago, I became mostly vegetarian and got a lot more healthy, and I love how I feel not eating meat,” Charity-McGurik said. As a result, she began “plotting and scheming” to open a vegetarian restaurant. Vicki’s Veggie Table opened over Memorial Day weekend.
The menu also features bottles of cold-pressed juices, such as Something Tropical and So-Cal Kale; wellness shots; açaí bowls; vanilla chia pudding; granola made from Maine oats; granola bars; and coffee. McGurik makes the herbed cashew cheese used on the avocado sandwiches. Come winter, the menu may expand to include hot chocolate and soups.
Vickie’s Veggie Table is open Friday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vegan from Scratch recipe site launches
Realtor, former caterer and vegan cooking enthusiast Kate Huntress has launched a website to share plant-based recipes and gardening and animal care tips from the small farm animal sanctuary she runs with her family in Yarmouth. Soon, she plans to offer online vegan cooking classes. Huntress is certified in plant-based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and eCornell.
“When I was a professional caterer, I used to guard my recipes so jealously,” said Huntress, who adopted a vegan diet in 2017. “And now I feel like the most important thing to me is to share everything I’ve learned.”
Among the recipes on her site are Perfectly Fluffy Pancakes, Hawaiian Tofu Poke Bowls, Greek Salad with tofu feta, Mushroom Farro Bowls with Fresh Lemon & Dill, and Garibaldi bars.
If you sign up for email alerts, you’ll get a free copy of her ebook, “Top 10 Plant-based Breakfast Recipes.” Visit the site at veganfromscratch.kitchen.

Amazing Chocolate Pots
Recipe courtesy of Kate Huntress’ Vegan from Scratch. The recipe, which can easily be doubled, is very flexible. You can use it as a pie or tart filling (you may need a double batch) or as frosting. To make frosting, beat the mixture by hand with a whisk until it softens, lightens and becomes fluffy and easy to spread or pipe onto cake or cupcakes.
Makes 4-6 servings
1 cup medjool dates (about 12 large dates), pitted
1 ¾ cups plant milk (almond, soy, oat, coconut, whatever you like!)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
6 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
Whipped coconut cream, chocolate shavings, fresh berries or toasted coconut flakes, for garnish
Combine the pitted dates, plant milk and vanilla in the container of a blender, preferably a high-speed one, such as a Vitamix. Blend on high until the mixture is so smooth you can no longer see any date flecks.
Add the melted chocolate to the blender container. Blend again on high speed until thoroughly combined. Scrape down the sides and blend again as needed.
Pour into small bowls or little jars. Refrigerate at least several hours before serving, and garnish as desired.

How to Find and Work With Suppliers - Entrepreneur
Signing out of account, Standby...
Whether you're looking for raw materials for manufacturing or finished products to resell, this guide will help you find and forge great relationships with suppliers.
Suppliers are essential to almost every business. Without raw materials to make what you sell or manufacturers to provide what you resell, you will have a tough time growing. There are also many supplies and services your business consumes as part of general overhead, from paper clips to Internet access.
Suppliers and vendors-the terms are used interchangeably here-can do much more than merely supply you with the materials and services you need to do business. They can also be important sources of information, helping you evaluate the potential of new products, track competitors' actions and identify promising opportunities. Vendors can turn into partners, helping you cut costs, improve product designs and even fund new marketing efforts. If you don't make selecting good suppliers and vendors a part of your growth plan, you're likely to regret it.
Evaluating Your Suppliers and Vendors
Suppliers can be divided into four general categories. They are:
What Makes a Good Supplier?
A lot of growing companies focus on one trait of their suppliers: price. And price certainly is important when you are selecting suppliers to accompany you as you grow your business. But there's more to a supplier than an invoice-and more to the cost of doing business with a supplier than the amount on a purchase order. Remember, too, that suppliers are in business to make money. If you go to the mat with them on every bill, ask them to shave prices on everything they sell to you, or fail to pay your bills promptly, don't be surprised if they stop calling.
After price, reliability is probably the key factor to look for in suppliers. Good suppliers will ship the right number of items, as promised, on time so that they arrive in good shape. Sometimes you can get the best reliability from a large supplier. These companies have the resources to devote to backup systems and sources so that, if something goes wrong, they can still live up to their responsibilities to you. However, don't neglect small suppliers. If you're a large customer of a small company, you'll get more attention and possibly better service and reliability than if you are a small customer of a large supplier. You should also consider splitting your orders among two smaller firms. This can provide you with a backup as well as a high profile.
Stability is another key indicator. You'll want to sign up with vendors who have been in business a long time and have done so without changing businesses every few years. A company that has long-tenured senior executives is another good sign, and a solid reputation with other customers is a promising indicator that a company is stable. When it comes to your own experience, look for telltale signs of vendor trouble, such as shipments that arrive earlier than you requested them-this can be a sign of a vendor that is short on orders and needs to accelerate cash receipts.
Don't forget location. Merchandise ordered from a distant supplier can take a long time to get to you and generate added freight charges quickly. Find out how long a shipment will take to arrive at your loading dock. If you are likely to need something fast, a distant supplier could present a real problem. Also, determine supplier freight policies before you order. If you order a certain quantity, for instance, you may get free shipping. You may be able to combine two or more orders into one and save on freight. Even better, find a comparable supplier closer to home to preserve cost savings and ordering flexibility.
Finally, there's a grab bag of traits that could generally be termed competency. You'll want suppliers who can offer the latest, most advanced products and services. They'll need to have well-trained employees to sell and service their goods. They should be able to offer you a variety of attractive financial terms on purchases. And they should have a realistic attitude toward you, their customer, so that they're willing and eager to work with you to grow both your businesses.
Changing Your Supplier Relationships
You may not need to find new suppliers to get a new deal. You can usually get discounts, obtain improved service and receive other features you need by making a request of your current suppliers-although it may not be as simple as merely asking. Here are some of the options and negotiating strategies for turning mediocre suppliers into top-shelf ones.
Making a Change
Having fewer vendors is usually better than having many vendors. Reducing the number of vendors you deal with cuts the administrative costs of working with many. Closer relationships with fewer vendors allow you to work together to control costs. Getting rid of troublesome vendors can quickly increase the efficiency of your purchasing and administrative staffs. So how do you decide when to change vendors? Here are keys areas to consider:

Safety tips for latchkey children from the AMR - SuperTalk Mississippi
As students across Mississippi have returned to the classroom, the American Medical Response, Inc. (AMR) has provided some safety tips for youth who return home from school while their parents are not present, also known as latchkey kids.
With inflation and the current state of the economy being a burden on many Mississippians, a lot of parents are unable to afford after-school care for their children but are also uncomfortable with the idea of leaving their kids at home unattended.
Eric Phillips with AMR sat down with us and discussed how parents and children can best be prepared to ensure the youth’s safety at home while an adult is not present in the home.
“The biggest thing is to have kind of a plan and a known way to act when they get home, specifically that the kids go through different scenarios and stuff that may go on,” Phillips said in an interview on The Metro.
Phillips gave the following list of recommendations for parents to teach latchkey children in order to maximize the kid’s safety in the home:
“If you do have those good routines down, if you are a working parent, and you’re not there when your child comes home, make sure that you have a way for them to call you,” Phillips said adding, “That’s a primary, but if you’ve got that routine already in place and you’ve already got it, make sure that you have a backup. If you’re at work and something happens and you’re not there and they call and they cannot get you, make sure that there’s somebody else that they can call and say, ‘Hey, I’m home.'”
