Colorado Small Business Development Center Helps With Business ... - The Ark Valley Voice

If you’ve been anticipating 2023 by putting a long-term dream of starting your own business at the top of your New Year’s resolutions, you’ve got powerful market-savvy friends right here in Central Colorado to help you.
Thanks in part to U.S. Small Business Administration (USSBA) funding, entrepreneurs in Chaffee, Lake, or Park Counties can now avail themselves of free or low-cost workshops and professional consulting through the Central Mountain Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Salida.

“We offer training available through the SBA, but we also offer our own workshops and mentoring,” notes Jamie Billesbach, SBDC director.
The Salida center offers hands-on workshops on all aspects of starting a business, emphasizing detailed preplanning before the business enters the marketplace.
The Center’s “Lean Up” program, for instance, aims at helping prospective business owners define who their customers will be and thereby be “early adapters.” At the same time, participants also concentrate on product development, and create what Billesbach calls “their own value” in the marketplace. (Keep watching Ark Valley Voice for an upcoming story on this program.)
Partnering with the Buena Vista and Salida Chambers of Commerce, the SBDC Director says an upcoming Center series will help entrepreneurs refine their business ideas.
“The first session we offer gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to clarify their goals and prove their ideas way before they’ve gone all in,” says Billesbach. “This saves them future time and money.”
Surveying a future business’s prospective market, she adds, can help an entrepreneur know if their business idea “is on target for their particular market before they even enter it.”
The Center also is committed to mentoring women who have ideas for small businesses but want to learn more about how and where to start.
“Because women starting businesses face special challenges, we assist them through our ‘Power of We’ program,” Billesbach says. “So we encourage anyone interested to contact us.”
One upcoming SBDC program first introduces entrepreneurs to the basics of small business and unfolds in several segments. The first segment covers preplanning and start-up basics.
SBDC Training Segment I
In the Center’s Segment I, prospective business hopefuls will create a one-page business plan, define their businesses’ purpose and customer target base, and learn how to solve their future customers’ problems to better meet their needs. The session is slated from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Weds. Jan. 11 at the Buena Vista Library; and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thurs. Jan. 12 at the Salida Scout Hut. Cost is $25. ($15 for Chamber members.)
Visit the SBDC at: https://centralsbdc.org Or inquire about upcoming events by email at info@centralSBDC.org; or by calling the Center at 719-221-0374.
The SBDC is located in the Sherman Building Lofts, 123 G Street, Suite 29, Salida, Colorado 81201

Elys Game Technology Announces Partnership to Provide Sportsbook Services at Top Hat Sports Bar & Grill in Maryland - Yahoo Finance

NEW YORK, NY, Oct. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Elys Game Technology, Corp. (“Elys” or the Company”) (Nasdaq: ELYS), an interactive gaming and sports betting technology company, today announced a partnership with Bookmakers, LLC to provide land-based sportsbook services within the Top Hat Sports Bar & Grill, located in Parkville, Maryland. Under the agreement, Elys will receive a percentage of all sports betting revenue generated pending final regulatory approval of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission.
Karen Senac, owner of Bookmakers, LLC commented, “We are delighted to partner with Elys to provide sportsbook services within the Top Hat Sports Bar & Grill located in Parkville, Maryland. Elys’ experience in the market, ease of use for players and reporting for regulatory compliance is what drove Bookmakers to select and sign with Elys. We expect that their “Build-A-Bet” feature will be especially attractive to our customers. We are excited about the prospect of offering yet another layer of entertainment to the customers of this already busy establishment. I am truly excited at the prospect of being part of this progressive program in the state of Maryland and appreciate the support of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission in driving new revenue streams to support locally owned businesses.”
Michele Ciavarella, Executive Chairman of Elys Game Technology, stated, “We are pleased to enter this partnership with Bookmakers, LLC to provide them with an end-to-end, best-in-class sportsbook solution for their customers. Top Hat Sports Bar & Grill, Parkville’s premier pool hall for over three decades, includes a sports bar and lounge area with multiple flat screen TVs for viewing your favorite sports, making it an ideal location to include our sportsbook solution for their customers. We look forward to working with Karen Senac and the Bookmakers team to fulfil their inaugural sportsbook goals.”
“This partnership is a further example of both our growing traction within the state of Maryland, as well as the eagerness of local business operators to provide their customers with sports betting as an ancillary product in their establishments. The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency recently approved new rules for Maryland sports betting. This agreement follows a similar agreement in the state of Maryland with the Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort, which is one of just seven named ‘class B’ entities in the state of Maryland guaranteed a sportsbook license. Adding a sportsbook to a local business operator, such as the Top Hat Sports Bar & Grill, is expected to be a win-win for the establishment, as it could generate a new stream of revenue and provide an engaging product and service for their current guests, as well as potentially allowing establishments to build their businesses by drawing new customers interested in the sportsbook solution to their venues. We plan to continue to aggressively develop our sales pipeline with additional bars, restaurants and other retail establishments to implement our sportsbook solution throughout the nation,” concluded Mr. Ciavarella.

A glowing new guard of historically inspired lighting reprises centuries of details and forms from 18th-century American to English Arts and Crafts.

Centuries-old lighting designs are shining brighter today than ever before. From 19th-century glass bell jar lanterns and nimble English task lamps to early American gilded sconces, this glowing new guard of historic-inspired fixtures reprises antique details and forms. Lighting designers are embracing the past for today’s designs, resurrecting sculptural accents and patinaed metalwork for compelling new pieces. Here, our favorite historic-inspired light fixtures back for an electrifying encore.

These photos were shot in the Dr. Oliver Bronson House, a National Historic Landmark tucked between the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. This Hudson, New York, home was built in 1811–12 and renovated by architect Alexander Jackson Davis in the late 1830s.
Meg Braff Designs’ riff on 19th century bell jar lanterns includes the glass caps that originally prevented candle soot from staining the ceiling.

Recalling the humble beauty of flickering tapers that once illuminated 18th-century American homes, the Ancram Double sconce celebrates the masterful handiwork of colonial metalworkers; forged iron arms extend from hand-hammered brass plating, easily holding a candle to their historic muses.

Designer W.A.S. Benson’s decorative ambitions might have been fueled by the Arts and Crafts movement, but the Englishman didn’t shun technological wins of the day—especially if they helped amplify elegance. Case in point, his innovative elbow joints brought agility of form to lighting, reimagined today in Hector Finch’s lithe Aubrey desk lamps.

In a boon for modern porticos, Vaughan’s Hawley lantern resurrects an 1830s antique, adapting its sublime details for outdoors. The original’s tapered fluting and sculptural finial return, as does fleur-de-lis-patterned fretwork that now repeats in double-banded detailing. A charming patinaed copper finish gives it aged gravitas inside or out.

Intriguing tales of early American interiors are chronicled in three mesmerizing tributes: a tin-and-glass English Box wall lantern with a crowning gilded shell motif, based on a 1750 design found in Virginia; an Oval Mirror sconce with hand-cut mirror wedges, reminiscent of 18th- and 19th-century styles; and the Beech Leaf sconce with gilded foliage inspired by Boston’s Liberty Tree of 1776.

Rescued from the ashes of World War II bombings, original London lanterns made their way to New Orleans’ French Quarter as battle-worn antiques. There, entrepreneur Andrew Bevolo, Sr., applied the same copper rivets from his wartime aviation work to revitalize the classic fixtures. Today they’re imagined in pure copper as the London Street Yoke lantern.
