Home Products International files Chapter 11 - HFN

Home products International made plastic products for storage, home organization and laundry care, as well as ironing boards.
CHICAGO — Home Products International – North America has filed for bankruptcy, citing rising resin and steel prices and an inability to sell the company, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. The U.S. manufacturer made plastic products for storage, home organization and laundry care, as well as ironing boards.
“The debtors utilize resin to produce plastic storage products and steel to produce ironing boards. The price of resin and steel has been extremely volatile during the past two years, with resin prices doubling and steel prices tripling,” CFO James Auker said in one filing, according to Crain’s. “The debtors have had only moderate success passing along those price increases to its customer base.”
Auker continued, “At this point, seemingly nothing will change the trajectory of the plastics and ironing board business lines. Neither resin nor steel prices are expected to moderate sufficiently in the near future. The supply chain crisis is not expected to change in the near future.”
HPI was unable to sell either its plastics or ironing board lines, and its lenders were unwilling to cover its operating losses, Crain’s reported. Among its customers are Walmart, Target and Amazon, it said.
Founded in 1952, HPI has estimated sales of $180 and is No. 52 on Plastics News’ list of North American injection molders, Crain’s reported.
On LinkedIn, Honey-Can-Do’s Steve Greenspon said he was “saddened to learn of the closing of a company which I greatly admired … HPI was one of the leading companies in the category which I hoped to emulate when I started Honey-Can-Do International LLC and HPI was a gold standard for professionalism with an incredible team and product line … For many years (decades perhaps), HPI was the North American marketshare leader and the last U.S. manufacturer of ironing boards in addition to being a leading provider of plastic storage products. HPI has also been a valued longtime member of the International Housewares Association and their leadership in the industry will be missed.”

10 Healthy Aldi Finds Coming to Stores This November - EatingWell

If the fall selection at Aldi has kept you coming back for more, you'll definitely want to get your hands on the new finds coming to stores in November. With Thanksgiving on the horizon, Aldi is filling its shelves with sweet-tart cranberries, savory herbs and lots of tasty options that include fall and winter veggies.
Related: These Are Going to Be the 6 Biggest Charcuterie Trends in 2022, According to Aldi
We've rounded up some of the most exciting items hitting shelves next month, so you can add them to your grocery list and keep your eyes peeled—after all, Aldi finds are in high demand, and you never know how long they'll be in stock.
Available as early as November 2, this frozen vegan option is a helpful buy for those looking to plan ahead or host an early Friendsgiving meal for folks who are eating meatless. Both options are seasoned with classic Thanksgiving spices, but for those looking to amp up flavor, the Herb Turkey Breast is the way to go. Each of these faux poultry choices is a tad high in sodium with either 510 or 540 milligrams of sodium per serving—that's more than our nutrition philosophy would recommend, but it's important to enjoy your Thanksgiving and include foods everyone can eat. Just consider offering a different option if you're serving folks who need to eat a heart-healthy or diabetes-friendly meal. Pick up a box for $4.99.
Usually, we wait until after Thanksgiving is over to remix and repurpose our leftovers into something new and delicious—but these stuffed pastas make those flavors available long before you start roasting the turkey. The turkey-cranberry option is stuffed with cheese, roasted turkey, stuffing and cranberries for a mini holiday smorgasbord in a single bite. Serve it up with a pan-gravy sauce, as the package recommends, or even with brown butter and fresh herbs for an easy meal. There's also the bourbon-sweet potato variety, which is also stuffed with cheese for a sweet-savory option. The package recommends serving with an orange-whiskey glaze, but you could double-down on the fall flavor with a butternut squash- or pumpkin-based sauce, too. In stores beginning November 2, each package will cost you $3.39.
Here's a surefire way to make Thanksgiving prep—and leftovers remixing—quick and easy. Use this stock to expedite the gravy-making process or as a base for turkey soup in the aftermath of your big meal. (We're partial to this Turkey & Wild Rice Soup with Vegetables, by the way.) Each 32-ounce carton costs just $1.69 and will be available starting November 2, so be sure to *ahem* stock up.
Yep, Aldi is even bringing seasonal vibes to your morning smoothie. These fruity freezer packs make it easy to blend up your quick morning drink, snack or post-workout beverage in a jiffy. Each mix includes pineapple, banana, cranberry, blueberry and lemon for something tart, bright and fresh. To make matters even sweeter, each of these pouches is free of added sugar, so you can appreciate the natural deliciousness of the fruit with every sip. Snag a bag of four pouches for $6.99 beginning November 9.
Not every meal you enjoy this November needs to be Thanksgiving-inspired. These little crab cakes still have an air of celebration—they would look pretty luxurious served with a homemade remoulade and a sprinkle of fresh herbs—but with a little seaside taste of summer as well. Each package comes with four cakes that you can heat up in mere minutes, then serve with your favorite accouterments, whether it's lemon wedges and air-fryer fries or a pretty salad of Bibb lettuce and a favorite dressing. Each package costs $5.99 and is available starting November 9.
Expanding your drinks selection this holiday season (or football season) doesn't have to include a big batch cocktail or mocktail. With a cooler full of these sparkling juices, available in classic cranberry cider and cranberry-ginger cider, you know you'll have something nonalcoholic for the non-drinkers and a delicious mixer for those who want to imbibe. Each pack of four glass bottles costs just $3.99 and will be available beginning November 9.
Thin crust pizza lovers, this one's for you. This barbecue-inspired pie comes topped with smoky sauce, plenty of cheese, chicken sausage, cilantro and red onion. You won't find this Mama Cozzi's option with the take-and-bake pizzas in the refrigerated section—this sweet potato-based pizza is a frozen option you can keep on hand for busy days. Snag a pizza that serves four for $5.95 starting November 23.
Folks who love pizza but still want to sneak in some veggies may also want to try this new take-and-bake flatbread. The cauliflower-based crust is topped with cheese, Italian sausage, kale, onions, tomatoes and a garlic cream sauce. Each pizza serves three for a quick weeknight meal. Just be aware that the saturated fat and sodium content is pretty high in this pie, with 12 grams and 670 mg, respectively, per serving. That's more than we would recommend eating in a single meal, particularly if you need to aim for a heart-healthy or diabetes-friendly eating pattern. You could help mitigate the surplus saturated fat and sodium content by dishing up smaller servings and supplementing the flatbread with a yummy Caesar salad or a quick tomato soup. Try one for yourself for $6.99 beginning November 23.
On a chilly night, heating up one of these frozen pasta meals would be the perfect way to stay warm and cozy with some low-effort comfort food. These rich dishes—both the cheese-stuffed gnocchi with sausage cream sauce and the mushroom-packed fusilli Alfredo with white truffle sauce—will be available starting November 30 for $7.49.
That's right—it's finally time to look toward the December holidays, too. Aldi will bring back some of its holiday sweet treats beginning November 23, but you'll have to wait an extra week to get your hands on this adorable addition to your holiday charcuterie board. This Holland-imported gouda is cut into cute little holiday tree shapes for a festive touch that you could pair with sliced apples, your favorite crackers and other fun crudités and dips. Snag a package of 14 trees beginning November 30 for $4.49.

Reston’s Halley Rise development to feature new urban farm, fall festival - FFXnow

Halley Rise — a major mixed use development at the door of the Reston Town Center Metro station — will debut its inaugural Halley Rise Fall Festival on Oct. 22.
The event, which includes live music, food and activities, also kicks off the introduction of the Farm at Halley Rise, an urban farm by Up Top Acres that grows food and donates products to organizations that work to reduce food insecurity.
Just under half an acre in size, the farm includes more than 30 vegetable, herb and fruit crops, along with beehives, a native flower garden, a rain garden and a meadow. The farm is intended to provide Cornerstones Food pantry and other local food security organizations with produce.
“At Up Top Acres, our goal is to create productive farms and gardens that foster a sense of community,” Up Top Acres co-founder Kathleen O’Keefe said. “We’re excited to welcome the Farm at Halley Rise into our portfolio and partner with Brookfield to reduce food insecurity and work toward a more equitable food ecosystem.”
Brookfield Properties broke ground on the project in 2019 and has since focused on building The Edmund, a 353-unit apartment building that includes a pool, terrace, and fitness center. The apartment building, which will house Wegmans on the ground floor, is slated to open in spring 2023.
Robert Swennes, Brookfield’s head of the mid-Atlantic and southeast region, said that the festival is part of an ongoing effort to make the development a vibrant community and destination in Reston.
“We are excited to welcome friends and families from across Northern Virginia for a day full of autumnal festivities, live music, delicious food and more, plus the grand opening of our new urban farm — all together should make for a wonderful celebration at Halley Rise,” Swennes wrote in a statement.
The festival will include scavenger hunts, a pumpkin painting station, a bouquet making stand, farm tours, lawn games and performances by local bluegrass band High & Wides. Pepe by Jose Andres, a food truck, will also serve up Spanish flat sandwiches.
At full build-out, Halley Rise will bring 1,600 residential units, 1.9-million-square-feet of office space, 240,000 square feet of retail, five acres of open space and associated infrastructure to the area.
A spokesperson for Brookfield Properties told FFXnow that the company plans to find other ways to engage the local community.
“Following this year’s event, we will continue to explore ways to offer family-friendly programming for the community,” the spokesperson said.

Researchers Uncover Custom Backdoors and Spying Tools Used by Polonium Hackers - The Hacker News

A threat actor tracked as Polonium has been linked to over a dozen highly targeted attacks aimed at Israelian entities with seven different custom backdoors since at least September 2021.
The intrusions were aimed at organizations in various verticals, such as engineering, information technology, law, communications, branding and marketing, media, insurance, and social services, cybersecurity firm ESET said.
Polonium is the chemical element-themed moniker given by Microsoft to a sophisticated operational group that's believed to be based in Lebanon and is known to exclusively strike Israeli targets.
Activities undertaken by the group first came to light earlier this June when the Windows maker disclosed it suspended more than 20 malicious OneDrive accounts created by the adversary for command-and-control (C2) purposes.
Core to the attacks has been the use of implants coined CreepyDrive and CreepyBox for their ability to exfiltrate sensitive data to actor-controlled OneDrive and Dropbox accounts. Also deployed is a PowerShell backdoor dubbed CreepySnail.
ESET's latest discovery of five more previously undocumented backdoors brings into focus an active espionage-oriented threat actor that's constantly refining and retooling its malware arsenal.
"The numerous versions and changes Polonium introduced into its custom tools show a continuous and long-term effort to spy on the group's targets," ESET researcher Matías Porolli said. "The group doesn't seem to engage in any sabotage or ransomware actions."
The list of bespoke hacking tools is as follows -
PapaCreep, spotted as recently as September 2022, is a modular malware that contains four different components that are designed to run commands, receive and send commands and their outputs, and upload and download files.
The Slovak cybersecurity firm said it also uncovered several other modules responsible for logging keystrokes, capturing screenshots, taking photos via webcam, and establishing a reverse shell on the compromised machine.
Despite the abundance of malware utilized in the attacks, the initial access vector used to breach the networks is currently unknown, although it's suspected that it may have involved the exploitation of VPN flaws.
"Most of the group's malicious modules are small, with limited functionality," Porolli said. "They like to divide the code in their backdoors, distributing malicious functionality into various small DLLs, perhaps expecting that defenders or researchers will not observe the complete attack chain."
